What actually goes wrong
Snapchat does give you your data. It just hands it over with the dates wiped, which is worse than it sounds — your photo app sorts by date, so everything piles up on the day you downloaded it.

How it works
Five steps, and the app keeps score of where you are. Your original export is never modified — everything it produces is a copy.
The app walks you through asking for it. Snapchat emails you a set of zip files; unzip them all into one folder.
Point it at the folder and it finds your memories, chat media and shared stories on its own. Dates come from the filename, and — where your chat history has it — the exact second the snap was sent. Written inside each file, not just onto it, which is the part that survives an upload.
Snapchat saves captions as separate images and doesn't record which photo they belong to. The app shows you both side by side so you decide — it never guesses, because a wrong guess bakes false text into the copy you keep.
It writes you a spot-checking guide naming the exact files most worth opening, and what a correct result looks like.

Where your photos go
Nowhere. That's the whole answer.
Timestamp Fixer runs entirely on your computer. Your photos, videos, captions and chat history are never uploaded — not to me, not to a server, not to anything. It doesn't even need an internet connection to do its work. Your original export is never modified; everything it makes is a copy in a folder you choose.

Is it really free?
Yes. No trial, no locked features, no account. If it saves you an afternoon and you want to say thanks, email me and I'll point you at the tip jar — but it changes nothing about what you get.
Will Windows warn me about it?
Probably, yes. Windows shows a blue warning for any program that hasn't paid for a code-signing certificate, which I haven't yet. Click More info then Run anyway. That warning is about who paid for a certificate, not about whether the program is safe.
Do I need to install anything else?
No. Everything it needs — including the video tool it uses to write dates into MP4s — is inside the single file you download. That's why it's around 57 MB.
Does it work on a Mac?
Not yet — Windows only for now. If you'd use a Mac version, email me and say so; that's what decides whether I build it.
What about My Eyes Only?
Snapchat doesn't include those in exports at all, so no tool can recover them. Save them by hand from inside the Snapchat app.
How long does it take?
Around 15–20 minutes for a large library. Mine is 11,404 photos and videos.
Some of my photos say 12:00 noon. Why?
Snapchat only records the date for saved Memories, never the time of day. Rather than invent one, the app uses midday on the correct date. Chat photos are different — those keep the exact second they were sent.
